Yesterday, I dropped off a few rolls of film to get processed. Today, I picked up my first batch of pictures taken with the Yashica camera.
The camera's shutter hadn't moved in decades, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but after getting my pictures back I can see that the old girl's got plenty of life left in her.
I still need to play with the camera some more before I'm completely happy with the results, but we're off to a great start! Here's a little preview of the pics...
Yes, we have a few new additions to the family! Well, the camera family anyway. I mentioned something a few weeks ago about a new toy I had just been given, and yet another toy I was hoping to get. Well, a few weeks have passed and I've finally had a chance to play with both of them.
The first toy is one I got for my birthday from Derf Rellim, a sweet Yashica-A medium format camera. He bought it about 50 years ago when he was starting out as a photographer, and now it has been handed down to yours truly. A great addition to the camera family, and I'm sure it'll occupy a lot of my time.
The second toy is really more of a workhorse, the Canon 7D. I've been looking to get more involved in video work for a while now (and wanting to have a good camera to shoot our short film projects), but the cost of a good quality HD camera was something I just couldn't justify. All of a sudden, Canon and Nikon came our with SLRs that could also shoot video. WOW! The quality and manual options weren't quite up to par with those early models though, so they weren't a practical option for professional video work. Along comes the 7D, with full HD video capability, and all the manual options you could want. Did I mention it's also a 18MP SLR? I couldn't resist any longer. SOLD!
I was going to post some pics of my new additions, but instead I figured I'd post a short little video of the Yashica, shot with the 7D. HAVE A LOOK!!
There's something about Monday morning that makes me feel a little off. Getting up, and getting back into the cold routine, being a part of the machine, trying to make money, trying to spend money, trying to keep people in business, trying to stay in business, etc...
It's this never ending cycle that feels a little more odd and robotic than natural and human. Trying to keep some sort of creativity flowing through the gears in the middle of it all isn't always easy. So, on this Monday, when I happen to feeling a little more robotic than normal, I figured I needed to scribble something silly to get it out of my system.
Well, this has been a stupid week. Long days, and even longer nights, but I think everything's under control now. I don't know what has made things goofier than usual lately, because I'm always busy (aren't we all), but for some reason this past week I haven't had time to post anything to the blog, I've barely touched Twitter, and I've gone on facebook once for what seemed like 5 seconds.
I haven't even taken a single photograph in 6 days!! Now that's unheard of!
Now, my mind is on new toys. A new toy I haven't had the chance to play with yet, and another new toy I might be getting soon. I'll post all about that real soon but in the meantime, here are some old toys from when I was a kid.
After I posted something about my GI Joe dude last week, I remembered taking out my old Micro Machines town and playing with the kids not too long ago. So, I decided to scan through my pictures to see if I had any decent shots of that. Here are a few of them...
Alright, it's Friday just after five o'clock. Quittin' time for the weekend. I spent most of the day taking a whole bunch of shots in an industrial setting today. So, I figured I'd throw a few of them up here before I pack it in. These have nothing to do with what I was actually taking pictures of... Just goofing around between shots. Have a good weekend!
